The Delta flight attendant requirements determine whether you can move forward in the Delta flight attendant hiring process. Before applying, confirm that you meet Delta’s age, education, work authorization, passport, reach and physical requirements.

Delta also evaluates whether candidates can perform essential safety duties, work an irregular schedule, complete training and accept an available base assignment. Meeting the minimum qualifications makes you eligible to apply, but it does not guarantee that you will advance.

This guide explains the current requirements, preferred qualifications and pre-employment screening so you can identify anything that needs attention before submitting your application.

Delta separates its minimum qualifications from the experience and skills it prefers. You must satisfy every minimum requirement to remain eligible for consideration.

Age and Education Requirements

  • Age: You must be at least 21 years old when you submit your application.
  • Education: You must have a high school diploma, GED or recognized equivalent.
  • English proficiency: You must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.

A college degree and previous flight attendant experience are not listed as minimum Delta flight attendant qualifications. Delta may, however, give preference to candidates with education beyond high school or relevant professional experience.

Work Authorization and Travel Documents

  • United States work authorization: You must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • International travel eligibility: You must possess the documents needed to travel freely into and out of every country Delta serves.
  • Passport validity: Your passport must have at least 30 months of remaining validity before your first day of training.

If you hold a non-U.S. passport, you must also have documentation allowing unrestricted entry into and exit from the United States. Review your passport expiration date early because renewals and supporting travel documents can take time to obtain.

Always confirm the requirements listed in the specific Delta job posting before applying because documentation standards can change.

Meeting Delta’s minimum requirements answers one question: can you apply? It does not tell you whether the flight attendant career is the right fit for your life.

The Flight Attendant Career Brief helps you understand the career, evaluate your fit, and make your next move with clarity before you invest more time in the application process.

Delta Flight Attendant Physical and Reach Requirements

Delta does not publish a minimum or maximum height for flight attendant candidates. Instead, it uses functional reach and physical ability standards connected to working safely inside the aircraft.

Delta Flight Attendant Reach Test

The Delta flight attendant reach test requires candidates to demonstrate that they can simultaneously reach:

  • 76 inches vertically from the floor
  • 35 inches horizontally

This is different from the outdated 74-inch measurement that may still appear on older websites and discussion boards. Your ability to meet Delta’s current functional reach standard matters more than your height alone.

Jumpseat and Essential Physical Abilities

Candidates must be able to fit in an aircraft jumpseat and securely fasten the seat belt and shoulder harness. Flight attendants must also be able to perform safety-related duties in confined spaces and move through the cabin without assistance.

Delta’s published physical requirements include the ability to:

  • Open and close aircraft doors weighing up to 60 pounds
  • Push and pull a beverage or service cart using approximately 32 pounds of force
  • Stand, walk, bend, reach and work for extended periods
  • Handle luggage, emergency equipment and other items required during flight duties

These standards reflect essential job functions. Exercise equipment, shoes or unofficial reach measurements at home cannot confirm whether you will pass Delta’s evaluation.

Delta Flight Attendant Appearance Standards

Delta expects flight attendant candidates to follow the appearance and grooming instructions provided for their stage of the hiring process. Requirements can change, so current instructions from Delta should take priority over older social media posts or another candidate’s experience.

Meeting the minimum Delta flight attendant qualifications makes you eligible to apply. Preferred qualifications can help strengthen your candidacy, but they do not replace the required criteria.

Experience Delta Prefers

Delta states a preference for candidates with at least one year of experience performing responsibilities similar to those of a flight attendant. Education beyond high school is also preferred.

You do not need previous flight attendant experience. Relevant experience can come from customer service, hospitality, healthcare, education, emergency response, sales, leadership, or other roles involving frequent interaction with the public.

Skills Hiring Leaders Evaluate

Delta looks for evidence that candidates can exercise sound judgment while delivering safe, professional service.

Relevant strengths can include communication, customer service, adaptability, teamwork, reliability, safety awareness, and professional judgment.

Make Your Experience Count

Having relevant experience is not the same as presenting it effectively. Your resume and cover letter need to show how your background connects to the flight attendant role without forcing the recruiter to figure it out for you.

The Flight Attendant Resume Service gives you professionally written, airline-focused application materials tailored to your experience and target airlines.

What to Do After Meeting the Delta Flight Attendant Requirements

If you meet the Delta flight attendant requirements, the next step is making sure you are ready when applications open. Monitor the Future Flight Attendant Job Board for Delta’s current hiring status and review the Delta Flight Attendant Hiring Process so you know what may come next.

Meeting the Requirements Does Not Prepare You for Selection

Being qualified gets you into the process. It does not prepare you to succeed in it.

Delta’s selection process can include assessments, an On-Demand Interview, Event Day, and multiple opportunities for hiring leaders to evaluate how you communicate, make decisions, handle customer situations, and present yourself as a future crew member.

The Flight Attendant Interview Success Program gives you the structured preparation you need for the entire interview process so you are not trying to figure it out after an invitation arrives.

If Delta is one of your target airlines, prepare before the opportunity shows up. Meeting the requirements gets you to the starting line. Being prepared is what helps you move through the process with a plan.
