The Delta flight attendant hiring process has changed in 2022 by adding a VJT and that still stands in 2023, but more about that in a bit.
By the end of 2022 Delta had a total of 4500 new flight attendants and in 2023 they don’t appear to be slowing down their momentum.
Being a flight attendant isn’t like any other job, and there are strict qualifications that must be met otherwise you will not even be considered for the position.

Delta Flight Attendant Preferred Qualifications
Delta also states the “preferred qualifications” on their website. Don’t count yourself out as a future Delta Flight Attendant if you don’t have the preferred qualifications, but if you do have them, it will give you a competitive edge.
✈️ 1 or more years of experience in jobs with responsibilities similar to those of a flight attendant
✈️ Completion of a degree beyond high school or GED preferred
Once you’ve met the Delta flight attendant qualifications, it’s time to apply.
Delta Flight Attendant Application Process
The first step in the Delta flight attendant hiring process is to apply when they are hiring flight attendants!
Only one application can be submitted per candidate and don’t apply more than once by using different emails. You may think they won’t know, but they know and it will ruin your chances of getting an interview.
Be careful before submitting your answers, because once you submit them, they cannot be undone and your answers cannot be changed, ever.
The Delta flight attendant hiring process can be tricky because there are so many steps, and each one has to be perfect in order to proceed.
When you apply, that is also the time to upload your resume if you haven’t done it ahead of time. A new resume is something that you can always go back in and add.
A good flight attendant resume is what will get you to the next step of the application process. As all the airlines do, Delta uses an ATS (Applicant Tracking System) to scan resumes for specific keywords.
If your resume is not keyworded correctly, you will get a message that you have not been selected to proceed.

Delta Talent Assessment
“The Flight Attendant opportunity requires a Talent Assessment to help candidates understand their strengths in the workplace. Candidates must complete and pass the assessment to continue through the interview process.”
The Delta Talent Assessment measures a candidate’s ability to solve problems, adapt to different situations, and assess if they are the type of flight attendant candidate that Delta Air Lines is looking for.
The talent assessment is what trips up a lot of flight attendant candidates during the Delta flight attendant hiring process.
Now, since 2022 Delta has added a virtual job tryout to the mix.
Not only do screening candidates by their resumes, but completing the assessments also allows airlines to pre-screen candidates so that they don’t have to waste time or money on applicants that are not the right fit for the position.
Learn how to pass the Delta Talent Assessment with the Flight Attendant Course & Coaching Program. My students have had great success passing the assessments by using what they learned in the Future Flight Attendant Online Course.
There is an entire lesson devoted to teaching you how to successfully navigate the assessments.
Delta Virtual Job Tryout
The VJT or Virtual Job Tryout is for Delta flight attendant applicants that passed the talent assessment. This portion of the application process is to see if the applicants have the skills needed to be Delta flight attendants.
The exercises in the virtual job tryout simulate actual circumstances you would encounter on the job as a flight attendant.
What better way to see if a candidate has what it takes than to simulate an on-the-job situation?
Each step of the Delta application and hiring process is to weed out applicants throughout the Delta flight attendant application process.
It can take many times to master the process and move on to the next step.
Delta Live Online Interview
Once you pass the two Delta Air Lines flight attendant job assessments, you will be invited to a Delta live online interview, conducted by Hirevue Live.
Hirevue also conducts prerecorded interviews, but the Delta live online interview, its is not prerecorded. The interview is a live interview, like a Zoom call.
Be sure to have a quiet area with no distractions, and log in early so that you can test your equipment and be ready for the interview.
Event Day
Once you’ve successfully completed your live online interview, if you are selected to move forward you will receive an invite to Event Day!
Event Day is basically a fancy name for the face-to-face (F2F) interview.
Event Day is an interview day that is hosted by Delta flight attendants and the talent team. There are multiple interviews, Q&A, and an introduction to Delta at Delta’s World Headquarters, in Atlanta Georgia.
The entire day is an interview, and it’s a really exciting part of the flight attendant interview process.
Job Offer
If you pass the Event Day interviews, you will be offered a job as a Delta Flight Attendant as long as you pass initial training. The flight attendant job is never guaranteed until you pass, the drug testing, background check, and initial flight attendant training.
Delta Air Lines Flight Attendant FAQs
I’ve compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions for the Delta flight attendant hiring process.
Is It Hard To Get Hired At Delta?
If I don’t get selected to move on to the next step in the hiring process, when am I eligible to reapply? That is the most frequently asked question I get about the delta flight attendant interview process.
Flight attendant applicants are eligible to reapply after three months. – It does however need to be a different reference number.
What is a reference number?
A reference number is a number attached to the job listing. The reference (or requisition number as it’s sometimes called) will look like this:
30 NOV 2022 REF#18582
It has the date the job was listed, the month, the year, REF#, and then the reference number.
The most recent reference number is: 17 MAY 2023 REF# 21019
These are actual Delta Flight Attendant Job reference numbers so that you can keep track of when you can apply.
For example, let’s say you applied on the first of September of 2021, and 30 AUG 2021 REF# 9238 was attached to the application. Then, you received the dreaded thanks but no thanks email after the talent assessment.
March 2022 rolls along, and it’s been three months since your TBNT (thanks but no thanks) email from Delta. Then, you look at the REF# on the application and it is still “REF#9238”!
Because Delta’s flight attendant application is not attached to a new reference number, you still are not eligible to apply even though three months have already passed.
How Long Is Delta Flight Attendant Training?
Delta flight attendant training is six weeks long at Delta World Headquarters in Atlanta Georgia. Prospective flight attendants do double up and have a roommate in training.

Is Delta Flight Attendant Training Paid?
Yes, Delta flight attendant training is paid, however, it is minimum wage, and therefore it is taxed.
It’s nice to be paid something to go to training because most people have bills and obligations, especially in this current economic climate.
Will I Have A Hotel & Roommate At Delta Flight Attendant Training?
Yes, you will have a roommate at Delta flight attendant training.
Delta Initial Training Flight Attendant Hotel Accommodation Policy:
Hotel accommodations are provided for those whose address is greater than 25 miles from the Delta Training Center.
Students are not required to stay in the hotel accommodations provided by Delta and some applicants make their own accommodations.
It’s so much easier to stay at the hotel for training because you can stay in the training environment and not be distracted by anything happening at home.
What is Delta’s Tattoo Policy For Flight Attendants?
Delta has a no visible tattoo policy.
For more in-depth information on airline tattoo policies, you may also like Can Flight Attendants Have Tattoos? The Answer May Surprise You
How long is the Delta hiring process?
The Delta hiring process can vary, but it does move quicker than the Southwest, United Airlines, or American Airlines flight attendant hiring process.
It does appear that since they added the VJT (Virtual Job Tryout) and the hiring process has started moving even faster. That makes sense too because the more people they can quickly weed out of the process, the faster they can move.
How much do first-year Delta flight attendants make?
It depends on how many hours they are able to work. First-year Delta flight attendants make $33.81 per hour. Pay doesn’t work the same for flight attendants as it does for every other job.

Are Delta flight attendants paid for boarding?
Delta flight attendants are paid 50% of their hourly rate for boarding as of June 2, 2022.
On domestic narrow-body flights, flight attendants receive 40 minutes of boarding pay at 50% of the individual flight attendant’s hourly rate.
On domestic wide-body flights, flight attendants receive 45 minutes of boarding pay at 50% of the individual flight attendant’s hourly rate.
On international flights, flight attendants receive 50 minutes of boarding pay paid at 50% of the individual flight attendant’s hourly rate.
Not bad for an airline that doesn’t have a union, right?
Can Delta flight attendants live anywhere?
Technically, yes, but keep in mind that Delta flight attendants have to be in position for their scheduled assignments (ADAYS & Trips) and commuting can be tricky during busy travel months.

I have my f2f next Tuesday I have great recommendation letter. Would this be looked at or can I up load it so it can be read?
Thank you,
Marcus
Hello Marcus,
I was scrolling through this page doing some additional research. I don’t know the question to your answer, but I was interested to know how your f2f went on 9/20? Also, how long did it take for them to get back with you after you applied? I’m asking these questions because I just applied last night. Thank you Kindly.
-Miami
Hi Marcus! Congratulations on your f2f! May I ask how long it took from initial application to your interview? Id greatly appreciate knowing. Thank you!
Hey does anybody have any pointers for my first interview it’s not a f2f it’s the one before hand! Please & thank you!
Hello Raj, Future Flight Attendant’s Interview Study Guide is an awesome resource for you for both video interviews as well as the F2F interviews. Best of luck to you!
Will they assign you to any base? Do you get to pick the base? If they pick the base for you do you have to move there? What really is the base, is this where you will leave for your flight?
Hello Karlie,
Delta Air Lines will assign new flight attendants to any of their bases where there is an operational need. You can put in your base preference, but the base award will be according to where they need you. A base is where you will be based, and all of your trips will originate and end at your base location. You don’t have to live at your base, you can commute.
This post The Commuting Flight Attendant & The Fascinating Way We Get To Work will be helpful for you to learn about commuting.
Is mask required in face to face interview? Was it ok to wear mask?
Hi Sonia, a mask is not required but flight attendant candidates are strongly urged to wear a mask during the Delta face to face interview.
I currently just got offered my first virtual interview. For the second one, in Atlanta. Do they pay for travel? Or is it out of pocket to go?
Hi Becc, congratulations on the F2F interview! Delta will fly you out there and back for free, but you will be responsible to pay for your hotel.
Does anyone know how long after the virtual interview comes the F2F interview? Days? Weeks? Months? Lots of conflicting information. My virtual interview is in a few days.
Hi Rae, congratulations on the VI! It’s always changing and timelines can vary from person to person that’s why the conflicting information. It seems to be a few weeks at the moment, but your timeline could be different.
I had my VI on Nov 2,2022 and I received my invitation for f2f interview on Nov 3, 2022. The email provided me with a calendar where I chose my actual f2f interview day.
Congrats, I have my Job Try Out can you tell me what to expect for this virtual session please
Thanks for all that great information on the flight attendant program… I now know what too pack and bring with me if I”m picked for the program and the do’ and don”s of how too be a great flight attendant…
You’re welcome Nadyia, best of luck to you during this exciting time in your future flight attendant career.
I received my CJO in Sep 2022 and still waiting for my training date as of Nov. Does anyone know how long it takes to report to training once you have received the CJO?
Hello Patty, did you receive your training date yet? I got my CJO in September as well and I received the email on the 14th to pick my training date.
My Event Day was 10/21/22 in Atlanta. I met lots of lovely, well-qualified people and had a wonderful time. During the day we were told “We will communicate with you about the results via e-mail in 7-10 days.” Several times we were told this. I am still waiting to hear, so I’m presuming it was a ‘no.’ When we left to return to the airport, we left in groups of about 8. I was in the third group released. While waiting for the elevator I heard a big cheer from the room we had just been in and surmised that the remaining candidates had been told they were invited to training. Delta might want to make sure all dismissed candidates are off the floor prior to telling remaining candidates that news. Given how quickly the process went for me, from step to step during the interviewing process, I’m quite disappointed that they couldn’t even click on the ‘thanks-but-no-thanks-feel-free-to-try-again-in-6-months’ generic email to those who didn’t make it. Especially after the multiple references to the “we communicate via email” song and dance. Really quite rude for a supposed ‘great company to work for.’
wow really? i just went to mines and was the first group to leave thanks for the heads up…
You still haven’t received an email , saying tbnt right ? Even after a couple months ?. They just say that to not get any negative response right ?
What personality traits pass the VI. To get a f2f interview?
Does Delta allow part-time or seasonal? I am currently a student, but would love to be a flight attendant summer/winter.
DELTA F2F Event Day
I am going to be completely honest, because I have friends who work for DELTA and feel the CURRENT PROCESS is a popularity contest, discriminatory, a scene from MEAN GIRLS, & juvenile, high school behavior.
You’re constantly reminded NOT TO POST on social media, and probably why is because this department at DELTA is setting themselves up for a DISCRIMINATION LAWSUIT.
You’re instructed to get to know all DELTA FAs in the room but many look you up and down to then walked past you. Many of them clearly don’t fit properly in their own uniforms and then they tell you that they’re BEING THE BRAND FAs. They like to take a lot about themselves but don’t engage with you.
The galley beverage cart was pointless, because if you don’t take charge immediately, and someone trying to impress does, the entire process goes awry. You can’t even ask a question and if one does, you get a look like you killed their first born.’
When asked to go to a 767 door & 757 jump seat mock-up, the DELTA FAs left me standing with my arms up forever, then when I took the jumpseat, I was told to suck it in because I had to get myself fastened. The next guy was a 29 inch waist and I am a 36 inch waist. Did you have to take off your shoes for NO REASON & the guy after me was out so quick that I barely got my shoes on. My FAs were so busy chatting that I received almost no direction, very unprofessional and the male FA was larger than me who told me to suck in.
The hand out video session was pointless because the DELTA FAs don’t even go over the handout at all and instead took questions so they could talk about themselves..
There are 3 sessions where you are TOLD to introduce yourself to all of the DELTA FAs but NOT ONCE did a single DELTA FA introduce themself to me or other candidates that I was standing near.
Now this entire day all you are given is water when candidates have gotten up few hours after midnight to fly in and all you are told is how much DELTA CARES about it’s people and preaches the CORE VALUES.
In the email there’s no direction on how to find your way to transportation, no one answers the phone number provided and all you’re thinking about is being on time. Who has the time to stop and pay airport prices for food when you just want to get to your interview. Plus, the address provided is the WRONG BUILDING.
Now at the end of the day. they stress half a dozen times that you will be notified VIA AN EMAIL IN 7-10 days whether you are to receive an offer or an opportunity to keep trying. Everyone knows that out of a group of 45 candidates that those getting an offer will be held back to be given an offer and to do a drug test, finger printed and complete paperwork for the background check. They also STRESS NOT TO POST any of this on social media. Afraid of a lawsuit for dishonesty and discriminatory tactics for sure, because they blatantly lie to your face. It’s entirely mind games, a popularity contest and high school immature antics of unprofessional behavior.
They dismiss you in what they call 5 zones so as to NOT OVERWHELM the elevators due to others in the building. Each ZONE comprises of 10 candidates and if you are in ZONES 1-3, you didn’t get the offer. All the way out of the building and to PROVIDED transportation they reiterate the EMAIL in 7-10 days making everyone feel pathetic knowing that we weren’t getting an offer.
Do they NOT realize that we will run into the candidates who got the offer at the airport?
Do they realize LYING isn’t a core value?
The entire process is a LAWSUIT waiting to happen.
The female candidate that I ran into in the ATLANTA airport after 30 OF US WERE LIED TO told me that she already knew about the CANDIDATE PROCESS before attending the POPULARITY CONTEST EVENT DAY because DELTA FAs told her to GOOGLE SOCIAL MEDIA as how to be successful. When the 30 UNPOPULAR GROUP OF CANDIDATES were escorted out BELIEVING THAT they would possibly receive an offer in 7-10 days, this INFORMED POPULAR CANDIDATE said that she knew that she had made it through due to all of the information online that she read in advance of the event.
Why was there transportation at the end of the day and NOT THE ENTIRE DAY?
Why was the remaining group who were given offers told that DELTA wanted to avoid emotional or upset behavior so that’s why the REJECTS were escorted from the building and also told that DELTA had to LIE to avoid any mental health issues?
Literally was a scene from MEAN GIRLS asking the NOT POPULAR GROUP being told to leave.
Those that didn’t interact, were late and didn’t dress appropriately were the individuals asked to remain and given offers.
RIDICULOUS!!!!
Hello, thank you for sharing your experience. I’m sorry it was painful for you. 😞
Oh wow! When was your f2f interview date?
I had a face to face interview on 3/22/23. We also left in groups. A few people were crying because they had read online if you leave in the first two groups you don’t get a cjo. One of the flight attendants came over to the airport shuttle van and told us “ Just because you’re leaving doesn’t mean you didn’t get the job you will get an email in 7-10 business days either way” What they don’t realize is people talk. I spoke with people at the airport that were offered the job in the last group. Honesty is part of their mission statement???? What a joke. We were also told not to speak of what goes on at the interview. Also, the group activity is ridiculous. 4 participants in the drink cart activity and one old women took it over and the rest of us in the group didn’t stand a chance.A poorly organized group activity. Then we were asked questions regarding the activity. Well you can’t say what you really think or you’re being disrespectful and you’re screwed if one person takes charge. The atmosphere was so strange. Seemed fake. Flight attendants watching you lol. Again constantly being reminded not to tell what happens there. Oh and no hand shaking. Only chicken wing shake. Weird! By far the strangest interview I’ve ever had.
This sounds like a painful experience, so they fly you back home right after you leave your interview?
Good afternoon!!
I just completed my LOD Test with Alta and I’m like really nervous I didn’t do well on the second interpretation section (I didn’t know the words for ATC or holding pattern 🤦🏼♂️). Is it wise to apply under the Flight Attendant (Non-LOD) application as well?
Thanks!
Hello, you will have to unfortunately have to wait to apply after the 90 days and new job number. I completely understand how it’s difficult to translate certain things because they are not part of your usual vocabulary, I have the same issue with certain terms that I would never use in real life when speaking a different language. Best of luck to you.
I recently applied for the flight attendant position. I haven’t heard anything. Is there a contact number or will I be contacted. How long is the process
I applied and got my talent card yesterday but haven’t Heard anything yet.
Hi Leokery, you hear back probably in another day or two. Best of luck to you.
Hello. I’m just slightly confused. I received my TBNT email back in January. Meaning I’d be eligible to reapply in April if the 3 month rule is accurate. However, as I read here, I have to wait for the reference number to change. Meaning it might not be 3 months? They shouldn’t say you can reapply in 3 months if that’s the case. How long does it usually take for them to change the reference numbers for their job postings? Or does that just depend? Sorry for all these questions, I just find it all a bit confusing. I’d like to reapply and was waiting patiently for April but now am a bit disheartened that it looks like I won’t be able to reapply then.
Thanks in advance if you answer these questions and thanks for this thorough article about the delta hiring process. Very helpful.

I recently attended FA Event Day and I actually thought it was a great experience! I did not make it, but I made it Event Day, so I was super proud of myself for making it that far. They had over 300,000 applicants and they kept stressing to us that they saw something in us to bring us this far, so we should be happy to be there. I am not going to go in to much detail about the event, but I will tell you this much, ask questions, but not too many questions. This seemed to annoy the FA’s that were conducting the training. They give you no indication as to what “type” person they are looking for. My group that left had very attractive, thin young girls and women in it, as well as very nice looking guys. Also, I dressed different, with the exception of black pants. I received SO many compliments on my choice of outfit from the FA’s. Even the others in my event made comments on how they would remember me because I “stood” out. Some people were there to strictly get the job and did very little “mingling” and others there were very “fake”. I say be yourself and just do the best that you can do. You made it that far!! I have zero FA experience and I know of 3 other current “regional” FA’s that applied who did not make it as far as myself, so that says a lot for me!!
Hi Shelly, you did a great job making it that far. The Delta F2F is the toughest of all airlines so you definitely should be proud of yourself. Thank you for the rundown of your experience.
I have my Event day just 9 days from today on 5/18/23
I will need air transport since I live in SF and the email said they would email me at least 2 weeks prior to my interview date. Still haven’t heard back so I’m anxious about not having enough time to plan my hotel accommodations and everything else for that matter. What is there to do?? Helpppp I’m so anxious about this. Waking up to no email from them is stressful
Hi Lucero, you can email them and ask. Best of luck to you.
Do you guys know when Delta is going to start hiring again Flight Attendants August or September 2023? I didn’t pass the virtual interview when they ask you five questions. I need help please thank you
Hello, I believe they will open applications again this week. If you need help FFAs Course & Coaching Program will help every step of the way. Best of luck to you. https://futureflightattendant.com/flight-attendant-school/
Hello, I passed thr talent card and completed the virtual flight attendant t questionnaire and now waiting (the first two were very quick). How long from the Virtual to the F2F? It has been 2 days now. Thank you
Hi Janet. You will most likely hear something very soon. It depends on how many applications they have.
How do you know if you passed the talent card
Hi Jodi,
Thanks for reaching out with your question! To determine if you’ve successfully passed the Delta Assessment (talent card), you’ll need to keep an eye on your email for an invitation from Delta to proceed to the next stage of the hiring process. Please be aware that Delta might take some time to respond, as they often have many applications to process. So, hang in there and stay hopeful!
Should you require any guidance or support in passing the assessment or other aspects of the flight attendant interview, FFA offers a Course & Coaching Program tailored to help candidates like you. This program will equip you with the knowledge and confidence necessary to excel in the hiring process. I’m only suggesting this as a helpful resource; there’s no pressure to sign up. If interested, you can find more information about the Course & Coaching Program HERE.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’m here to support you in becoming a flight attendant!
Fly high,
Deanna – Future Flight Attendant
I’m going to tell my experience this far. I applied and 10 mins later was invited to the next step. I done that and then got the virtual tryout instantly. Then done that and got less then a day later an email to do the virtual interview. I completed that last night 5/22/23 and have not heard anything back yet.
Is it true that Delta only hire experienced flight attendants?
I’ve submitted my virtual interview on Saturday. How long does it take to hear back from Delta Air Lines if I was selected to have a F2F interview? Thanks
how long did it take for the email to come from the vjt to the virtual interview
Anyone know when will Delta post for a FA position? The last time was in May 2023 and I heard they just took it down in July 2023. Do airlines usually have a break from hiring? Thank you!
September 7th application with open again for Delta flight attendant positions. Good luck to everyone who plans on applying!
Thank you Beyonce!
I applied on September 8th and already completed the first assessment they ask me to complete and just got an email to complete the virtual job assessment. After completing it what is the next step in the process and wait time to hear something? Does anyone have any advice or tips to help me in the process? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Have a Blessed Day!
